Dear Center Members: |
This GAQC Alert provides the registration information for an upcoming Governmental Audit Quality Center (GAQC) Web event, Understanding the Changes to Yellow Book Independence, to be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Eastern Time). The most significant changes made by GAO in the 2018 edition of Government Auditing Standards (or the Yellow Book) relate to the independence standards, especially as it relates to the performance of nonaudit services including financial statement preparation. Now is the time to gain a strong handle on these changes and to understand why you need to be ready to adopt them as soon as this July. |

Registration Information
This GAQC Web event will cover the following:
- Key independence rule changes;
- An overview of the 2018 Yellow Book independence conceptual framework and related documentation requirements changes;
- An understanding of how the 2018 Yellow Book's independence rules compare to the AICPA's rules; and
- Resources for implementing the 2018 Yellow Book.
Remember that the effective date of the 2018 Yellow Book's financial audit, attestation and review engagement standards is for periods ending on or after June 30, 2020. However, auditors who provide nonaudit services need to be independent for the entire audit period and will need to consider the updated auditor independence requirements prior to this effective date. For example, an auditor performing a June 30, 2020, financial statement audit under Government Auditing Standards will need to comply with the new independence requirements at the beginning of the audit period, July 1, 2019.
The presenters for this event are: Nancy Miller, CPA, KPMG, and Brian Schebler, CPA, RSM.
GAQC Member Registration: GAQC members can register now using the continuing professional education (CPE) or no-CPE options.
To ensure you receive CPE for this Web event, please complete your online registration by noon on Thursday, February 21st.
