Minnesota CPA Society Meets with Congressional Delegation on Capitol Hill

Members and staff of the Minnesota Society of CPAs visited Washington, D.C. in May to meet with members of the Minnesota Congressional delegation about important issues impacting the profession.  The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) assisted in material preparation to help facilitate conversation on some of the accounting profession’s most pressing federal issues.

Topping the list were discussions regarding tax reform and concerns that future draft legislation may restrict usage of cash accounting, pushing to increase cosponsorship of the mobile workforce legislation that would create a 30-day threshold for workers required to file an income tax return in another state, and expressing concerns about the Department of Labor's overtime rule and impacts to the profession.

These issues were very timely for the meetings with the Minnesota delegation.  House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Brady was polishing his tax reform blue print.  The mobile workforce legislation, pending in both the House and Senate, has the most support it has ever had in the history of the legislation.  Continuing to push for cosponsorship will further our interests in moving that bill.  Finally, at the time of the meetings, the Department of Labor had just released details of its revised overtime rule.
