AICPA Academics Area Staff
The AICPA Academics Area is comprised of dedicated staff that aim to collaborate with and engage accounting educators and universities. The team focuses on doctoral student initiatives, curation of technical content for use in the classroom, the Effective Learning Strategies educator awards programs, Academic Champions program and more.
Steve Matzke is the Director of Faculty & University Initiatives overseeing the Academics Area, Ph.D. initiatives, including the Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) Program. He is the staff liaison for AICPA’s Pre-certification Education Executive Committee and serves as the AICPA’s staff liaison for the Pathway’s Commission and is the AICPA’s Technical Advisor of the International Accounting Education Standards Board. Steve is the 2015 recipient of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy’s Practitioner Service Award which recognized his contributions towards advancing accounting education. Prior to joining the AICPA, Steve spent eight years as Operations Manager of the Master of Science in Accountancy Program at the University of Notre Dame. He received his MBA from Indiana University and has undergraduate degrees from Purdue University and Indiana University.

Anna E. Howard, CPA, is the Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives and manages academic-focused programs and initiatives. She engages educators to champion the accounting profession and serve as a viable partner in extending reach to the accounting student population. She assists faculty with classroom resources and curriculum development. Before joining the AICPA, Anna served a director of the Master of Science in Accounting program at Nichols College and taught accounting and audit courses. Anna received her BBA in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and an MBA from Clark University. She started her career as an audit associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She also has sixteen years of experience in corporate finance, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.

Amy Merletti is the Senior Manager for the Academic & Student Engagement team at the AICPA. Amy joined the AICPA in 2015 and oversees the Academic Champion program, Accounting Pilot & Bridge Project along with other key influencer initiatives. Prior to joining the AICPA, Amy worked in the marketing industry for a top accounting firm in Miami, FL. Her experience includes, marketing strategy, brand management, event execution and public and media relations. Amy received her bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University in public communications with a minor in business hospitality and tourism management.
