State CPA Society Government Fiscal Responsibility Activities

State CPA societies have engaged in various activities to inform the public and advocate for government fiscal responsibility.  Below is a sample of these activities.

Indiana

In a blog post from the Indiana CPA Society’s CEO & president, Gary Bolinger, CAE, wrote that, “we need to take responsibility to deliver messages to our elected officials that we expect (demand) for them to work together to find solutions to our current fiscal situation.” Read the October 25, 2012 post on the Indiana Society’s I was just thinkin’ blog.

North Carolina

The North Carolina Association of CPAs hosted the Comeback America Initiative’s “$10 Million a Minute Tour” in Chapel Hill on October 5, 2012. The event featured a presentation by former US Comptroller General David Walker, Founder and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative. Ohio

In a January 28, 2013 blog post, “A surplus of debt,” Ohio Society of CPAs Chair Brendan Fitzgerald wrote, “The nation’s economic future is more at risk every day we add to the national debt.”

Utah

The Utah Association of CPAs launched Financial Ready Utah, a campaign which seeks to educate the state’s citizens about the impact of the federal government debt on their lives. Together with legislators, chambers of commerce and civic and business leaders, the association and its members have prepared a variety of resources for public use, including petitions, a brochure and sample letters to send to the governor and state representatives. For these resources and more information, visit the Financial Ready Utah website and read Financial Ready Utah: Peace in Preparedness.
