Tax litigator and AICPA conference founder nominated to lead IRS

President Donald Trump on February 8 announced his intention to nominate California tax attorney Charles “Chuck” Rettig to lead the Internal Revenue Service.
Rettig, who has been with Beverly Hills-based Hochman, Salkin, Rettig, Toscher & Perez for 35 years, would succeed former IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.
He is the founder and co-chair of the AICPA Tax Planning, Compliance and Controversy Conference and a frequent speaker at the National Tax Conference. “He is a tax controversy specialist and knows the tax community, the IRS and the AICPA well,” according to AICPA Vice President for Taxation Ed Karl.
The IRS Commissioner’s term is seven years, the White House said in a statement.
