August 23, 2018

South Dakota State Senator Deb Peters, CPA, completed her role as the President of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) at the organization’s 2018 Legislative Summit in Los Angeles earlier this month. NCSL is a bipartisan organization that supports state lawmakers and provides policy makers with opportunities to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.

Laura Coome, executive director of the South Dakota CPA Society, said, “Senator Peters is an outstanding state legislator and an effective voice for the CPA profession.”

During her time as NCSL’s president, Senator Peters emphasized the states having a voice in Washington, D.C. When asked how being a CPA contributed to her success, Senator Peters said, “My education and work experience over the past 21 years has been the cornerstone of my success. My background as a small business owner helped me understand the complicated issues and work on solutions.”
