Tom Rice

Representative Tom Rice serves South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District and has been serving Congress since being sworn into office in 2013. He currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Tax Policy, Trade and Social Security Subcommittees. The Ways and Means Committee is Congress’ oldest committee and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Rice has promoted legislation important to the CPA profession, including voicing his opinion on continuing with cash-based accounting methods for tax purposes and supporting the Mobile Workforce bill in the 115th Congress.

Rep. Rice serves on the Ways and Means Committee where he uses his experience as an accountant and knowledge as a businessman. He serves on the Trade, Social Security, and Tax Policy Subcommittees.

Prior to Rep. Rice’s political career, he earned both his master’s degree in accounting and his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina. After completing his degrees, Rep. Rice worked for Deloitte & Touche in Charlotte. While working for Deloitte, he earned his CPA certificate. In 1997 Rep Rice established his own tax law practice, the Rice & MacDonald Law Firm.
