Rep. Jim Renacci (R-Ohio) was first elected to represent the 16th District of Ohio in November of 2010.  He currently sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has primary jurisdiction over tax issues, and the House Budget Committee.

Before being sworn into the House of Representatives, Rep. Renacci worked at Grant Thornton in the firm’s health accounting practice and co-founded LTC Management services, which operated and managed nursing facilities.  Over the course of his career, he has owned over 60 entities and employed more than 3,000 people.

As one of ten CPAs in Congress, Congressman Renacci is a member of the Congressional Caucus on CPAs and Accountants.  Throughout his time in Congress, he has supported issues of importance to the profession.  Understanding the need for taxpayers and practitioners to receive adequate service from the IRS, he signed onto a letter to then-Treasury Secretary Lew requesting a review of IRS’ service and plans to improve taxpayer services.

Rep. Renacci is a leader in Congress in promoting fiscal responsibility.  Earlier this year he introduced H.Con.Res. 8, the Fiscal State of the Nation resolution, providing for the Comptroller General of the United States to make a presentation to a joint session of Congress regarding the audited financial statement of the executive branch.  Upon its introduction, Rep. Renacci stated, “We need to get serious about our fiscal future, and lawmakers must fully understand the financial statements of the United States in order to adequately address these issues…Our fiscal health is not a partisan issue and we need to start taking control.”

Scott D. Wiley, CAE, president and CEO of The Ohio Society of CPAs, said, “Congressman Renacci is a valuable ally of the accounting profession.  Because of his background as a CPA and as an entrepreneur, Rep. Renacci understands how business needs intersect with public policy.  We’re proud to have him as a member of The Ohio Society of CPAs and thank him for his service to Ohio and the nation.”

The American Institute of CPAs appreciates the leadership role Congressman Renacci is playing in Washington on issues that are important to the profession.
